Chinese Furniture is one of the most important and traditional industry in the world. The production of made in China furniture is enhanced with superior innovations and the scale is gradually expanding. At present time, China is the world’s most stable furniture production country and exporter. Especially after China’s WTO accession, the export market of Chinese furniture grew rapidly and made its strong position in the international market by exporting growth at an average annual 30%.

After reformation of Chinese furniture industry with successful 20 years of development, production of furniture increased by 130 times which is equal to the annual growth of 29.27%. The furniture exports increased by 294 times which is equal to 34.90% annually. According to facts and figures of 2009, the industrial output value of Chinese furniture is about 7,000 billion yuan. The export of the year is 25.329 billion U.S. dollars which covered 25% of the world furniture trade of the same year. Similarly, the exports to the EU accounted for more than one third.

The furniture industry of China contains around 50,000 companies with 5 million employees (according to the report of CNFA 2003). Many of these companies have small to medium operations with annual sales less than 36 million U.S. dollars (equals to 300 million Chinese Yen). If we talk about large-sized companies then only account for 3% companies of the total industry exist. By ownership, at least 90% of Chinese furniture companies are not state owned. There is a diversified range of ownership types, including foreign, domestic private Chinese companies, stock-holding companies, various joint ventures, etc.
